RZR Pro R 4 Cylinder Vehicle Rundown

The RZR Pro R 4 cylinder models are big beasts! We made this article to give you a rundown of the issues and products offered for this model. This should give you a great idea on what you should do for extra power and/or transferring the power more efficiently to the wheels.

Clutching: You’ll hear many talk about the great belt life of the Pro R. Due to the large clutch size and excellent CVT cooling, they are one of the best RZR’s on belts. However, we were some of the first to really test hard with this vehicle and take the clutches apart to examine belt slip/blacking of the secondary and/or primary. We noticed these have a huge problem with belt slip as the secondary spring is too soft, and the primary over shifts. Same problem Polaris has had for years now. With our clutch kit properly set up and clutch limiter, we could completely eliminate the black belt marks at the bottom of the secondary (full shift). and the light haze on the primary. Once we had this figured out and more time, we developed the S3 clutch kit with our helix which drives the secondary harder for much better acceleration, and less of that revvy down low feeling (all rev, no go). We’ve had these clutches apart hundreds of times trying all sorts of combinations. We’ve done this with high speed riding, mid range trails, low end crawling, and on the dyno.

Tuning: All companies are the same? Sadly this is what some think. We’ve had customers compare out tuning to others in the industry and the differences are much bigger than most (hell, even us) would think. Just like clutching, we tested a huge amount of calibrations/techniques things to make the most power possible. Sadly so many companies throw the standard at these vehicles… few degrees of timing, sort out AFR’s. This works, but many times we run into situations where trying odd things results in showing a gain somewhere we didn’t expect. This is the case on the Pro R as we found some things that really unlocked the potential of this vehicle, especially combined with our exhaust and clutch kit.

Exhaust: Our exhaust I’ll say is the best sounding on the market… it simply sounds wicked! The slip-on has adjustable sound with our stealth cap or E-cutout and spark arrestor options. Our header is designed extremely well and is made to go outside the frame rail like factory. The bends were too extreme when trying to fit inside the frame rail and we knew that would not make the same power. Our exhaust also uses the OEM mounts… be cautious of those who do not as the exhaust will be more likely to crack. Our exhaust is all made in the USA and has a hydroblasted finish that will turn the traditional stainless color after running hard. We put a ton of time into our exhaust, and had a great deal of riding on it before releasing.

Cams: BC cams help this motor rev which is where most the power comes from. The OEM cams dip off hard. Having cams that run out are great as power keeps coming on, with extra horsepower in the mean time, and not losing any bottom end. We like to clutch for 8400-8600 with the cams with keeping in mind over 8600 your alternator bearing life will go down quickly.

Turbo: We are taking a while, but it’s coming soon!
