PV3 Gauge Setup/Monitoring for Turbocharged Vehicles

To set up your gauges, power the device up and hit the large square button for Menu, then toggle to Device Tools > Configure Gauges > Screen 1 > Channel 1. You can then set your channels 1-4 up as listed below.

Below are the gauges we suggest to have on screen for monitoring, and the most important things to look at to verify your vehicle is running at peak performance:

Manifold Absolute Pressure & Target Boost – These should be within 1psi at wide open throttle. These values are in absolute pressure which means atmospheric pressure is included in the values, this is why they read higher (example: 30psi target boost or manifold pressure with a 14psi baro pressure would be 16psi of boost).

WGDC: This is how much of the boost controller is being used to control the wastegate. This should be 40-80% in most cases. Keep in mind it will normally jump out to 100% or so, then settle back in a wide open throttle pull. If over 80% consistently, we’d want to adjust the wastegate rod shorter, look for a boost leak, or an intake restriction. Higher altitudes may see a higher WGDC as some turbos will struggle to make peak boost with thinner air. Too low of a duty cycle can cause overboost issues on spool up, or rough drivability in the mid range.

Knock Retard PTO on Polaris, or Cyl 2 on Can Am: Ideal value is 0, but up to -3 is acceptable. This value is telling us how much timing is being pulled based on engine knock from the knock sensor and ECU calculations. If you see over -3 it’s best to add some octane, or find another reason the vehicle is sensing knock as your power greatly decreases over -3 degrees. Most models will pull up to 8 to 12 degrees of timing to deter from severe knock. If pushing -7 or greater, you should back off as motor damage may occur.
