RZR Turbo or Pro XP Misfire or No Power

Is your RZR turbo having issues and you need somewhere to start? We have some other article on boost and low boost issues you might want to check out first, but if that’s in the clear, see these common issues below.

Normally a noticeable misfire under load is often:

-Bad fuel injector(s) (Install new injectors, or wire a 9v battery to open injector and flush/back flush with carb clean). Injectors have small bucket filters in the inlet which will clog. If cleaning is not working or in a pinch, you can insert a wood screw into the injector inlet, thread it in a few turns, and pull out to remove the bucket filters. Keep in mind this will allow debris through the injector. See AA OEM replacement injectors HERE

-Bad Fuel Pump (or an aftermarket pump that is not fastened to the housing, loose hose clamps) – Replace pump. See the AA fuel pump for XPT HERE

-Dirty fuel system. If cleaning injectors works but symptoms return, you probably have debris in your fuel lines. Flush fuel lines.

-Bad Fuel (Drain fuel)

-Bad intercooler core leaking coolant into the intake (Check for low coolant level in reservoir) – replace intercooler core. See AA intercooler core HERE

-Spark plugs, wires, or coil bad… or spark plug wires arcing to an aluminum charge tube (Replace parts) See AA spark plugs HERE

-Spark plug wires corroded where they meet the coil (Carefully remove plug wires from coil and check)

-Bad fuel pressure regulator (rare, but have seen a few times) or a blow off valve bleeding off pressure at wide open throttle (bad o-rings in valve). This would cause improper boost pressure to the regulator.

-Too high of RPM hitting rev limit (need to add clutch weight)

– Low battery voltage (bad battery, stator, or voltage regulator)

RZR Turbo No Power/No gains after tuning (some redundant from above, but may not be bad enough to cause an actual misfire, just a power loss)

1.   Boost leak.  Make sure your charge tube clamps are tight and there are no holes in the tube. See here for more boost related info: https://aftermarketassassins.com/tech-blog/f/rzr-xp-turbo-boost-overboost-low-boost-waste-gate-adjustments

2.  Air intake restriction, make sure your air filter is clean and intake tube is not collapsing. If possible open air filter lid and run it quick to test only.

3.  Fuel pump.  If the vehicle runs well at idle and low speed, but seems to tip over/feel flat up top…. this is oftentimes a sign of a weak fuel pump.  If you load a lesser or stock tune and notice the power is about the same this is another tell tale sign.  However we always suggest replacing the pump, flushing the fuel lines, then replacing injectors after flushing.

4.  Dirty/Bad fuel injector(s): (Install new injectors, or wire a 9v battery to open injector and flush/back flush with carb clean). Injectors have small bucket filters in the inlet which will clog. If cleaning is not working or in a pinch, you can insert a wood screw into the injector inlet, thread it in a few turns, and pull out to remove the bucket filters. Keep in mind this will allow debris through the injector.

5.  Intercooler leaking into plenum.  The intercooler core leaks into the plenum causing coolant to enter the system and decrease performance.

6.  Bad Fuel or spark plugs – plugs at times may look fine but are not (Extremely common on Pro XP models) See AA spark plugs HERE
