Updated 12/30/2020: RZR Turbo & Pro XP P90X Primary Clutch Recall
Polaris issued a recall and stop ride on all RZR turbocharged models with the P90X primary clutch (2020-2021 Pro XP, 2021 Turbo & Turbo S). This is to prevent failure which can cause personal injury and damage to your RZR. The fix is to make clutches without balance holes near the clutch towers. This is a band air on the problem as the movable sheave is not strong enough. The correct thing to do is stop riding if your RZR was affected. If you are going to risk it and keep riding(or if you have the updated “fixed” clutch), we have a few suggestions/solutions to make your clutching work better, and strengthen/replace the weak P90X primary clutch.
Solution #1: Add our clutch kit, primary limiter washer, and the revolver primary clutch cover with tower lock to your factory clutches. These parts reduce belt slip and add strength to your primary clutch. This is not saying the primary cannot still have issues, but the chances of failure would be much less. If sticking to factory clutches with our parts we still suggest not power braking, and be cautious if you happen to run into any belt slip. Check your clutches for cracks and issues if you have felt belt slip. We would not suggest using launch control with the OEM clutch. A lower RPM launch control may be okay, but that design is weak and launch control is the hardest thing on a primary clutch. See the links below for the revolver cover and clutch kits for your OEM P90X clutch.

For your information…. our shop Pro XP had a clutch explode early in it’s life when at a drag race event. After that we put about 500 miles on it with our clutch kit and had no issues. We then put 1500 very hard miles with our clutch kit and testing our revolver cover and another drag race event. The only thing we did not do in that 2000 miles is any 2 foot brake boost launches. We did many dead stop to full throttle starts, just not holding the brake. Our clutch lasted setup like this until we torture tested it with MANY (50+) 3000 RPM launch control hits. It failed, and our broken parts confirm it would be a “bad” clutch on the Polaris diagram for balance holes. To wrap that up… while we can’t guarantee anything here, for the normal or even aggressive trail rider, our parts should be enough. For the aggressive drag racer you’d want to see solution 2.
Solution #2: Ditch the clutch and go to our AA primary conversion kits. We have been working on and testing (even before the recall) a retro fit kit to adapt the standard RZR turbo clutch on these models. This clutch has taken abuse for years and we’ve found it to be much less likely to slip the belt, and offer better performance. We now offer these kits, see below links for more details.
2020-2021 Pro XP S2 Kit (Complete NEW primary + Secondary Spring)
2020 Only S3 Kit: (Complete NEW primary + Secondary Spring + Helix)
2021 Turbo & Turbo S, S2 Kit: (Complete NEW primary + Secondary Spring)
Polaris issued the below diagram, then came out to say this may not be the full cause of failure. Below we posted some images(thank you FB users who shared); one shows a crack outside the “safe zone” of the clutch. As soon as we saw this diagram we knew it was not the complete fix. The movable sheave needs to be stronger, but AT LEAST have no drill holes anywhere near the towers/weights(past the ends of the green arrows, basically the weight pin width). As mentioned above, the fix from Polaris is simply a band aid on a weak movable sheave. If you are an aggressive rider, like to drag race, or want to use launch control, you’d better grab our clutch conversion.
